Dow Opens More Than 900 Points Lower As Corona Virus Fears Grow

U.S. stocks opened sharply lower Monday as fears of the fallout from a global coronavirus spread whacked risk assets.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened about 906 points, 3.1%, lower, while the S&P 500 lost 71 points or 2.1%. The Nasdaq Composite dropped about 404 points, 4.2%, at the open.

Stock markets around the globe took a hit and safe haven assets like gold and bonds powered higher. Shares of Starbucks fell 3% in early trade Monday after analysts at Cowen suggested the company was among the most exposed to demand from China.
