Stocks Nudge Higher After December Jobs Report

Stocks opened with modest gains Friday, pushing further into record territory and maintaining upside momentum after a modestly weaker-than-expected December jobs report.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 5 points, or less than 0.1%, at 28,962, while the S&P 500 gained 0.2% to 3,280. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.2% at 9,224. Major indexes were building on gains that saw all three close at records on Thursday.
The Labor Department on Friday said the U.S. economy created 145,000 jobs last month, short of the 165,000 forecast by economists surveyed by MarketWatch. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.5%.
