U.S. stocks fell at the opening bell Wednesday as investors grappled with the ominous economic signal from the yield curve's inversion.
The S&P 500 was down 0.3% to 2,858. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 122 points, or 0.4%, to around 25,656. The Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.6% to 7,782.
The likelihood of a no-deal Brexit appeared to rise after the U.K. prime minister Boris Johnson announced he would look to suspend parliament until Oct. 14, a move that would stymie opponents of a no-deal arrangement.
The inversion of the yield curve, a well-regarded bond market recession indicator, also continued to dampen investor sentiment.
In company news, shares of Autodesk Inc. fell 12.8% after the design software company's outlook for third-quarter profits and sales fell short of analyst expectations.
