U.S. stocks posted broad-based declines on Monday, but bounced back from session lows, after President Donald Trump™s surprise threat to raise tariffs on Chinese goods this week, sparking a flight from riskier assets.
At 11:04 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 230.33 points, or 0.87%, at 26,274.62. The S&P 500 was down 26.59 points, or 0.90%, at 2,919.05 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 81.04 points, or 0.99%, at 8,082.96.
The benchmark S&P 500 is now about 1% away from its intra-day record high of 2,954.13 hit last week.
The S&P index recorded seven new 52-week highs and three new lows, while the Nasdaq recorded 34 new highs and 29 new lows.
