U.S. stocks were set to see muted action on Wednesday as a partial government shutdown enters its 26th day, and as uncertainty in U.K. politics adds to questions about the stability of European markets.
Wall Street, meanwhile, was digesting a fresh batch of earnings from financial institutions, including BlackRock Inc., and Bank of America, among others.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were up 37 points, or 0.2%, at 24,019, those for the S&P 500 index climbed 4.35 points, or 0.1%, at 2,609.50, while Nasdaq-100 futures ticked up 1.75 points to 6,678.50, a gain of less than 0.1%.
Wall Street investors will continue to assess quarterly results, which have mostly been strong, and guidance from the CEOs of American corporations, who have thus far communicated their confidence in domestic expansion, if not in global economic growth, which has been showing cracks.
