Japan Stocks Rise as Sentiment Improves on U.S.-China Trade

Japanese stocks rose as investor sentiment improved on U.S.-China trade as the two countries agreed to extend meetings in Beijing into Wednesday.
Topix rose 1% to 1,533.73 as of 9:06 a.m. in Tokyo and Nikkei 225 added 0.9% to 20,381.8. Yen edged up less than 0.1% to 108.72 per dollar.
Exporters such as electronics makers and auto-related companies boosted the Topix index, while construction stocks fell. The benchmark extended a rally to three consecutive days, its longest since a seven-day gain ended Dec. 3.
Electronics: Keyence gained 1.5%, Panasonic jumped 3%, Sony advanced 0.9%.

China stocks rose the most in two weeks on Tuesday, as a cut in a key interbank funding rate on Monday bolstered hopes for more government stimulus to prop up slowing growth.
