U.S. Stock Futures Tip Lower in Countdown to Jobs Data

U.S. stock futures dipped slightly on Friday, but traded in tight ranges as investors focused on the upcoming monthly jobs report, on watch for a rebound for jobs growth.
Trade talks between the U.S. and China were also drawing attention, as the second day of discussions took place. The U.S. has reportedly handed Beijing™s team a lengthy list of demands aimed at cutting the trade imbalance between the two.
Investors are bracing for another batch of earnings reports, from Alibaba Group Holding Inc. and others. Several Federal Reserve speakers will make appearances at a conference as well.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 30 points, or 0.1%, to 23,880, while S&P 500 futures slipped 2.55 points, or 0.1%, to 2,629.25. Nasdaq-100 futures fell 13.50 points, or 0.2%, to 6,651.
On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average recovered from a decline of as many as 394 points and closed up less than 0.1%, to 23,930.15, ending a four-session slide. The S&P 500 index dropped 0.2% to 2,629.75, and the Nasdaq Composite Index closed 0.2% lower at 7,088.15.
For the week, the Dow industrials were set for a 1.6% slide as of Thursday™s close, while the S&P 500 was looking at a 1.5% fall and the Nasdaq at a 0.4% decline.
