Tokyo stocks edged up Wednesday morning as exporters gained from a weaker yen and investors cheered easing concerns over North Korea and US hurricanes.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.47 percent, or 93.20 points, to 19,869.82 by the break while the broader Topix index was up 0.64 percent, or 10.37 points, at 1,637.82.
In Asian trade, the dollar fetched 110.07 yen, slightly down from 110.18 yen in New York but up from 109.42 yen in Tokyo on Tuesday.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, blue-chip exporters Panasonic jumped 2.95 percent to 1,583.5 yen and Hitachi was up 2.74 percent at 776 yen.
