American authorities have arrested a North Korean cargo ship - Wise Honest - for being accused of violating American sanctions and the United Nations is transporting coal from North Korea.

The Security Division of the US Department of Justice explained in a statement on Thursday (9/5) that the ship was approaching American waters. The ship was first captured by Indonesia's maritime authority in April 2018.

The sanctions-breaking ship is not functioning anymore, said assistant American attorney general for national security John Demers.

The ship is one of North Korea's largest cargo ships. And this is the first time America has captured a North Korean cargo ship for violating sanctions.

According to observers of UN sanctions violators, the ship was carrying 25 thousand tons of coal worth 3 million dollars when arrested last year. North Korea also uses the ship to transport heavy machinery.
