ECB leaves rates unchanged, reiterates plan to end bond purchases in December

The European Central Bank on Thursday, as expected, left interest rates unchanged and affirmed its plan to end its monthly bond-buying program in December.

The ECB's key lending rate remains at 0%, while the rate paid on deposits parked overnight at the central bank remains at negative 0.4%.

The ECB also repeated that it plans to keep rates at present levels "at least through the summer of 2019, and in any case for as long as necessary to ensure the continued sustained convergence of inflation to levels that are below, but close to, 2% over the medium term."

As usual, investors will pay close attention to ECB President Mario Draghi's news conference, scheduled to get under way at 2:30 p.m. Frankfurt time, or 8:30 a.m. Eastern.
