The U.S. dollar surrendered early gains on Tuesday against its main currency rivals, putting it on track for a third-consecutive losing session.
In midmorning trade, the ICE dollar Index, a measure of the greenback against its six closest rivals, was trading at 96.767, down 0.2% compared with late Monday. Overall trading activity was subdued Monday due to the Presidents Day holiday in the U.S.
Trade talks between U.S. and Chinese officials are expected to resume in Washington on Tuesday after a round of discussions last week in Beijing were described as making headway.
The British pound was the best-performing major currency versus the dollar at $1,2989, compared with $1.2925 on Monday, briefly trading above the $1.30 level.
