Silver and Platinum Extend Show-Stopping Rallies

Silver climbed to the highest since 2016 and platinum continued its week-long rally as widening demand for haven assets boosts other precious metals following gold™s gains earlier this year.

Silver futures for Dec. delivery settled +1.6% to $19.547/oz at 1:25pm on the Comex in N.Y. after surging to $19.69/oz earlier Wednesday, the highest for a most-active contract since Sept. 2016. Price climbed 4.9% on Tuesday, biggest daily gain since 2016. Gold futures for Dec. delivery +0.3% at $1,560.40/oz after +1.7% Tuesday. Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index -0.5%. Platinum futures for Oct. delivery jumped as much as 4% to $994.30/oz, the highest for a most-active contract since Feb. 2018; palladium also rose.
