Gold Near Four-Month Low as ETF Holdings Keep Falling

Gold held near the lowest level in almost four months as the dollar extended its rally, while holdings in gold-backed exchange-traded funds dropped to the lowest since Jan. 1.

Spot gold +0.1% at $1,273.54/oz. Metal dropped to $1,266.42 on Tuesday, lowest intraday level since Dec. 26.

Gold tumbled Tuesday as the S&P 500 Index and the Nasdaq Composite Index marked new milestones amid a glut of favorable first-quarter earnings, sapping demand for havens. While early trading on Wednesday pointed to a pause in the equity rally, the dollar™s strength is keeping pressure on gold.
