Gold Gains Ground as Dollar's Rally Runs Out of Steam

Gold rose as a rally in the dollar petered out, while investors await the outcome of high-level U.S.-China trade talks in Beijing this week.

Spot gold +0.3% to $1,311.43/oz at 7:49am in London; -0.5% Mon. Separately, U.S. congressional negotiators reached a tentative deal on border security that would give President Donald Trump far less money than he™d demanded for new barriers and would avert another government shutdown.

Bullion has drawn additional interest over recent months amid concern that global growth is slowing. Kyle Bass, founder of Hayman Capital Management, said the U.S. most likely will enter a mild recession by the middle of 2020.
