Japan™s Nikkei rose on Thursday and hovered at six-week highs after the U.S. Federal Reserve signalled it was ready to cut interest rates to support the economy, but gains were gapped by a stronger yen.
The Nikkei share average rose 0.5% to 21,442.94 points by midmorning, after it climbed 1.7% on Wednesday. The broader Topix gained 0.3% to 1,560.

Falling air fares and car prices saw U.K. inflation return to the Bank of England™s target last month.
Consumer prices rose 2% from a year earlier, down from 2.1% in April, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday. Core inflation slowed to 1.7% from 1.8%.
Air fares, which surged in an Easter-related boost in April, fell 5.2% in May compared with a 10% increase a year earlier....

Gold prices jumped on Thursday in Asia after the U.S. Federal Reserve kept the door open for an interest rate cut later this year.
Gold futures for August delivery, traded on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, were up 2.6% at $1,383.50 per ounce by 12:45 AM ET (04:45 GMT).
