Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday as investors took heart from a relatively cheaper yen, with relief prevailing after key central bank meetings ended without causing major market disruptions.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.27 percent or 59.84 points at 22,104.29 in early trade, while the broader Topix index was up 0.25 percent or 3.99 points at 1,619.65.

The Philadelphia Federal Reserve's manufacturing index fell to 12.0 in September after registering a reading of 16.8 in August.
Any reading above zero indicates improving conditions. Economists polled by MarketWatch expected a reading of 10.0.
The indexes for general activity and new orders fell, while the indexes for shipments and employment increased, the Philly Fed said.

The threat of war in the Middle East is pushing oil prices higher again, capping one of the most dramatic ever weeks for crude markets in which 5% of the world's supplies were cut by attacks on Saudi production facilities.
Brent crude for November settlement rose 42 cents, or 0.7%, to $64.82 a barrel on the ICE Futures Europe Exchange as of 8:52 a.m. in Singapore on Friday....
